Over the last few weeks, students in the Speech and Debate class finished their unit on Persuasive speaking by giving their sixth, and final, individual speech. Students have started our Debate unit in which we have been playing rapid-fire speaking games, holding informal round table discussions of issues, and learning the rules and guidelines of value and policy debate.
The changes and amendments to the term grades are as follows:
Quarter 1: 45%
Formal presentations 40%
Homework 15%
Speaker's Journal 15%
Notebook 10%
Participation 10%
Quarter 2: 45%
Discussions and Debates 40%
Homework 20%
Participation 15%
School Research Paper requirement 25%
Semester test: 10%
As you may note, in the second quarter students will no longer be graded on the upkeep of their notebooks, and that the overall weight of the grade has been redistributed in order to account for the semester test, which will be given in January. Students who are completing their Research Paper requirement will have this set of scores account for 25% of their second quarter grades.
